BIRTHDAY PARTY

Mrs. Sprott Honoured

The ladies of St. Matthew's parish, Brooklyn, entertained Mrs. T. H. Sprott, wife of Bishop Sprott, at a party in honour of her birthday, held last Friday afternoon in the parish hall. The room was charmingly decorated and there was a large attendance. The Rev. W. Tye, vicar of the parish, who was present with Mrs. Tye. said how delighted he was to have the opportunity to honour Mrs. Sprott in this manner, and, on behalf of the ladies of the parish, asked her to accept their gift of a birthday cake with their affection and good wishes. Referring to the work done by both Bishop and Mrs. Sprott during the 45 years they had been in Wellington, Mr. Tye said that there were no two other people in the city who were regarded with such affection and esteem, and that Mrs. Sprott had been a mother to all the clergy. They felt especially glad in Brooklyn that Bishop and Mrs. Sprott had come to live among them on the bishop’s retirement. Mrs. Sprott. feelingly expressed hei thanks for the kind thought that pro moted the party, and said how happy she had always been among her friends at Brooklyn. The cutting of the birthday cake at afternoon tea was a special feature, and later musical items were enjoyed, those contributing being Miss McNicol, Mrs. Martyn Williams, Mrs. Soule and Mrs. Clift. A' dancing item by students, also gave pleasure.

Many people who appreciate the splendid work • accomplished by the Sisters of Compassion will be interested to hear that they will hold their annual gift tea on Saturday next. This party will be on the same lines as those held at the Island Bay Home for many years, only it will be held at the new home at Silverstream.. Arrangements are being made for special buses so that people from town will have no difficulty in getting to the party, and it is hoped that both old friends and new will wend their way to the home on Saturday next. A band will be in attendance, and the sisters will provide afternoon tea in the grounds. Gifts in cash or in kind will be gratefully accepted:
