Habitual Criminal Jailed

Palmerston North, February 7.

The prisoner had got into touch with a schoolboy by means of a fake advertisement that he wanted a chauffeur.- had drugged him with drink, and then committed the offence complained of, said his Honour. Mr. Justice Ostler, in the Supreme Court yesterday, in sentencing Norman Paul Nesbitt. alias Drinkwater, single, aged 32, to two years’ imprisonment with bard labour on a charge of indecent assault on a male at Pahiatua. His Honour also declared Nesbitt an habitual criminal. Nesbitt asked that he be sent to a mental hospital. His Honour said he bad no power to do that; the prison authorities would if it were necessary. It was difficult to know what to do with Nesbitt. He had reached a stage where he was not only a nuisance but a menace to the community. He had 14 convictions, including those for theft, breaking and entering and false pretences. Now he had started the type of offence with which he was charged.
