MINISTER'S TOUR

Swamp Drainage in Far North

By Telegraph—Press Association. Whangarei, February 6.

The Minister of Lands, Hon. F. Langstone, who has been making a comprehensive tour of the far north, arrived at Whangarei this afternoon.’ He inspected the Whangarei Falls and the Kioreroa Road, and later received a deputation of settlers in the Hikurangi swamp area, who asked the Government to take steps to improve their position.

They pointed out that the big expenditure on draining the swamp had been largely nullified by the fact that the outlet for the waters was not wide or deep enough to cope with the increased rapidity of their accumulation as a result of the various cuts that have been put through the swamp.

Last evening he was tendered a civic welcome, after which he was the guest, of the Labour Party at a dance.
