FULL NAZI SALUTE

German ‘Ambassador at King’s Reception MONARCH NOT SURPRISED By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received February 5, 5.5 p.m.) London, February 5. Ambassadors and Ministers accredited to the Court of St. James attended at Buckingham Palace this morning to present their new letters of credence to the King. The King for the first time on a State occasion wore the uniform of an Admiral of the Fleet. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Anthony Eden, was in attendance. The “Daily Herald” says that when the name of the German Ambassador in London. Herr von Ribbentrop, was called, he advanced toward the King, halted, clicked his heels and gave the full Nazi salute. The King bowed in formal acknowledgment.

The diplomatic correspondent of the “Morning Post” says that as Herr von Ribbentrop sainted lie rapped out the words “Heil Hitler.” Though the Ambassador's action must have been unexpected the King showed no surprise. ACTIVITY RESENTED Propaganda Campaign of Von Ribbentrop (Received February 6, 1.35 a.m.) London, February 5. Reports that the German Ambassador in London. Herr von Ribbentrop, influenced members of the Government against the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Anthony Eden, and so was responsible for the transfer of Sir Erie Phipps, British Ambassador in Berlin, to Paris are authoritatively denied. Although well-informed officials in Whitehall yesterday gave the Associated Press News Agency an emphatic denial of the suggestion by the provincial Press that Herr von Ribbentrop Is carrying on a propaganda campaign against Mr. Eden, the political correspondent, of the "News Chronicle,” London', repeats the story and alleges that diplomatic disquiet has arisen in London. Herr von Ribbentrop is no longer persona grata with British Ministers, who resent his propagandist activities, which are not consonant with ambassadorial practice. It. is pointed out. that he is as much in Berlin as London, since his appointment and is suspected of active participation in the preparation of Herr Hitler's speech. He is constantly in the company of leading Conservatives favourable to an Anglo-German alliance on an auti-Russiau basis and therefore necessarily ant i-Freiich.
