To popularise Rotorua and provide facilities for the many workers benefiting from the 40-hour week, the Rotorua Borough Council recently asked the Minister in charge of tourist and health resorts (Hon. F. Langstone) to discuss with the Railway Department, the possibility of running a regular excursion train from Auckland to Rotorua on Friday evenings, with a return train leaving Rotorua on Sunday afternoons or evenings. Advice has now been received that it is not considered that the proposal would be justified. It is said by the department that earlier experience has proved that a special train at excursion fares would not be an economical proposition. The department, however, is closely watching the position and providing special trains whenever they appear to be warranted,
