MIDDLE PARK PLATE

C.J.C. Midsummer Meeting Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, February 5. The summer meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club will be held to-morrow. Fields are the best for some years past, and the Middle Park Plate, Midsummer Handicap, and Craven Plate are likely to provide very close contests. The track has hardened up considerably in the past week, but a solid sole of grass should ensure excellent going. The wiu-and-place system will again be in operation. The following horses are likely to be well supported:— Hornby Brush Hurdles. —Polydora and Golden Lap. Trial Stakes. —Rebel Mate, Gresham and Dictate. Middle Park Plate.—Mob Rule, Royal Chief, and Lazybones. Midsummer Handicap.—Wild Chase, Queen of Song, and Tunneller. Halswell Handicap.—Cerne Abbas, Lofty, and Sovereign Lady. Lyttelton Plate.—The Haughty Win-ner-Night Dress bracket, Happy Night, and Top Row. Craven Plate. —Concertpitch, Knockhn, and Joyous. Post Handicap.—Roaming, Palmyra, and Gold Label. Bracketed horses will be: —Paper Slipper and Mob Rule in the Middle Park Plate, and Merry March and Daymist, and Haughty Winner and Night Dress in the Lyttelton Plate. Night Dress is a half-brother by Nightmarch to Day Dress, and closely resembles his sire. He has yet to appear in public, but has shown very promising form on the tracks. Others making a first appearance in the Lyttelton I late are Dividend, a chestnut gelding by Lord Warden from Davinette, trained by T. H. Gillett for Mr. E. Hay; Lockit, a brown gelding by Siegfried from Polly Peachuni, a stablemate of his brother Miracle, in J. Tomkinson’s stable; Bonnie Agnes is a brown half-sister by Nightnuirch to Sweet Agnes, and is trained by C. Emerson for Mr J. M. Robertson, of Westport, who raced Sweet Agnes; Love Affair is a bay filly by Philamor from Love-in-the-Mist, and is owned by her breeder, Mr. G. H. Grigg, for whom she is trained by T. H. Gillett.
