NEW OPERA HOUSE
Double-Feature Programme A thrilling story of the South Seas, “Isle of Fury,” is the main attraction at the New Opera House. Produced by Warner Bros, and based on a novel by Somerset Maugham, the picture is notable for some splendid acting by Humphrey Bogart, Margaret Lindsay, and Donald Woods, who play the principal roles. Highlights include the rescue of men washed into the sea from a ship smashed on a coral reef in a terrific storm, battles between outlawed white men, half-castes, and natives, and, greatest of all, a titanic struggle t<> the death of two men caught in the snakelike tentacles of an octopus at the bottom of the ocean. Underneath it all there is passion in the hearts of a man ann u beautiful girl, both of whom fight desperately to control their love, because the girl is the bride of the master of the island. The second picture on the programme, “Straight from the Shoulder,’’ tolls how an artist who had identified men concerned in a robbery outwitted gangsters who were determined on revenge. The romance is furnished by Katherine Locke, late of the legitimate stage, and handsome Ralph Bellamy.
