Concluding Day of Trots at Hutt Park CRICKET AND TENNIS Provided the weather remains suitable summer sports in "Wellington will be continued this afternoon. Cricket. The series of senior matches in the Wellington Cricket Association’s competition started last Saturday will be concluded this afternoon. Wellington College Old Boys, with 440 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets, are in a strong position against Wellington in a match at the Basin Reserve. In the other game at the Basin Reserve Universify have lost four wickets for 95 runs in reply to Midland’s tally of 192. Institute will have to fight strenuously to overhaul the total of 333 set by Kilbirnie at Kilbirnie. Last week Institute had lost, two wickets for 61 runs before stumps were drawn. The position in the game at Hutt is that Hutt made 177 and Karori have 159 runs in hand for the loss of four wickets. The A grade Mercantile League fixtures for to-day are as follows Customs Agents v. Sargoods, Wakefield No. 7; Taxes A v. Prestige, Athjetic No. 2; Taubmans v. Amalgamated Bricks, Newtown No. 7; Working Men’s Club v. Jasco, Kelburn No. 3: Roseneath v. Woolworths, Athletic No. 1. The Wellington Women’s Cricket Association will play the following _ senior matches to-day:—College Old Girls v. Technical Old Girls, Nairn Street: Wellington v. Y.W.C.A., Emerson Street No. 1. Sports at Hataitai. Large entries have been received for the Johnsonville R.S.A. sports meeting, to be held at Hataitai Park at 2 p.m. today. This meeting was to be held at Johnsonville, but has been twice postponed. Besides a large programme of athletic and cycling events, there will be a Highland dancing competition. The Wellington Caledonian Society’s Pipe Band will be in attendance. Trots at Hutt Park. The Wellington Trotting Club’s summer meeting will be concluded at Hutt , Park to-day, the first race being timed to start at 12.30 p.m. Golf. Members of the Shandon Golf Club will play in a flag competition on the Shandon links to-day. Lawn Tennis. Inter-club tennis matches will be played on the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association’s courts at Miramar this afternoon. Several matches will also be decided to-morrow. Bowling. Bowling clubs in the Wellington centre will be mainly occupied with club competition matches this afternoon. The Johnsonville and Khandallah clubs win. engage in a contest for the Jerusalem Cup on the Johnsonville green. Rifle Shooting. At Trentham, beginning at 1.30_ p.m., riflemen representing Petone. Karori, Suburbs, Old Navals, . and University, will compete for the Union Shields. Yachting. Inspite of the fact that the chief interest among yachtsmen is centred on the Sanders Cup races at Lyttelton, there will be a full yachting programme to-day on Wellington Harbour. Both Port Nicholson and Evans Bay club craft will be engaged. Rowing. For rowing enthusiasts the Redding Shield regatta conducted by the Petone Rowing Club, will be the centre of attraction. Interest will be added to this year's gathering by the rowing of the inter-club eights in conjunction with it for the first time. The first race will be rowed at 1.30 p.m, and the final race is timed for 5 p.m. Swimming. Because of a lack or entries, the harbour race to have been conducted by the Evans Bay Swimming Club to-morrow has been abandoned.
