BICYCLE IN RIVER

Believed to Have Belonged to Drowned Youth Foxton, December 8. Dragging in the Manawatu River near the Foxton wharf last evening. Constable R. Owen recovered a bicycle which is believed to have been the one in the possession of Stanley Wilfred Wright, the 19* year-old farm hand wltose body was recovered front the river five miles lower down a week ago. At the inquest the constable advanced the theory that Wright had fallen over the wharf while riding his cycle along the edge, and his recovery of the machine in the locality bears this out to some extent. Wright was fully clothed when found and had a bicycle clip attached to each trouser leg.

SCHOOL GALA DAY

Calf and Lamb Judging at Kahutara' Dominion Special Service. Featherston, December 8. On Saturday the Kahutara School Committee held a gala day in the school grounds, in conjunction with tlie school judging of the Wairarapa Boys’ and Girls' Calf Club competitions. There was a very large attendance of people of the district and visitors, and the effort will considerably augment the school funds. 'The day was formally opened at 11 a.m. by Mr. A. C. Pearce, who complimented the committee on it« endeavours to interest the parents of the school in the Calf Club competitions. A particularly interesting section was the yearling class, in which nine children exhibited as yearlings the cnlves they showed in the dairy type class' last year. A lamb competition was also held for the younger children. I hiring the day, children's sports were held, and also a children's arts and craft show was judged. Various stalls and competitions kept the large crowd entertained. Results: — Calf Section. Dairy type (31 entries), Mr. A. C.
