CRICKET CONTROL

Special Match Practice For Representatives TOW v. COUNTRY Arrangements for special representative practice were made at a meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association last night. It was stated that the association’s desire to have special practice had been readily met by the director of parks and reserves, Mr. J. G. MacKenzie. and the custodian of Kilbirnie Park, Mr. 11. Wilkins, who were arranging to have a special wicket available on Kilbirnie Park on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 5 to 7.15. It was stated that. it would probably be arranged for one side to bat one afternoon and the other on the second. Mr. A. W. Duncan, the sole selector, announced the following practice sides: - A team: J. It. Lamason (Old Boys), captain, 11. F. Rice (Kilbirnie), J. A. R. Blandford (University), J. Ell (Wellington). S. Ward' (Kilbirnie), C. Parsloe (Kilbirnie), R. Crawford (Midland), B. Griffiths (Old Boys), J. Ashenden (Kilbirnie), K. Montgomery ' (Institute), E. King (Karori). , B team: E. G. McLeod (Hutt), captain, E. W. Tindill (Midland), W. Dustin (Midland), M. Thomas (Wellington), W. G. Rainbird (Old Boys),. 11. Lnbransky (Kilbirnie), W. Tricklebank (University), D. Si Wilson (Kilbirnie), E. Mallard (Wellington), B. Moore (Stop Out)', E. D. Blundell (Wellington). ■ Players not available are to notify the secretary of the association or the selector immediately. The view of members of the association was that match practice, even for only two hours on an afternoon, was much more useful to the players than net practice. The special practice is being arranged in view of coming representative fixtures, which are:— December 18 and 19: Town v. Country, at Wellington. n December 25, 26, 28, 29: v. Otago, at Wellington. January 1,2, 4,5: v. Canterbury, at Christchurch. - „ . , , , February 12, 13, 10, 16: v. Auckland, at Auckland. „ March 24, 25, 26, 27: v. England, at Wellington. General Business. Nelson advised that its proposed tour would probably eventuate, and asked if it could play Wellington on January a and 6. It was suggested that the Wellington second eleven might play Nelson. It was pointed out that the University touring side would be away at the time, but it was indicated that the association, would prefer the players to be available if wanted for the second eleven team. It was decided to defer decision on the question, and to investigate the possibility of fielding a good team on that date and also of playing the quadrangular tournament of the 'Wellington, Hutt Valley, Mercantile League and another team, as suggested-at a previous meeting. It was agreed that the Brabin Shield game with Canterbury should be played on February 8 and 9. A letter from Midland asked for a ruling as to whether play had to be resumed on” a second day in a match in which there were no umpires when the captains disagreed about the suitability .of the ground, the case cited being that of the game with Onslow at Nairnville. It was decided to reply that the question'had to be left to the captains, but where it appeared that unfair advantage had been taken of conditions by one side or the other the association would be entitled to consider the case on its merits. Hutt withdrew its junior C team and University withdrew its junior D team, »n account of teachers’ training college members being absent in the holidays. The following third grade fixtures were announced for Saturday: Hutt v. Y.M. C.A., at Hutt; Onslow A v. Onslow B, at Nairnville 3; Kilbirnie v. Railways, at Lyall Bay 4; Karori v. Kaiwarra, at Karori 10; Petone v. University, at Petone. Mr. J. H. Phillipps presided over an attendance of Mtwrs. A. W. Duncan, W. A. Baker, A. Ronaldson. J. 11. Stevens. J. S. Hanna, L. J. Brabin, C. Moore (umpires’ association), J. S. Banks (treasurer), and A. Varney (secretary).
