Mr. Semple Plans Visit to Australia A visit to Australia before Easter is planned by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Semple. The purpose of his projected tour is to inspect State electricity and' irrigation works, particularly in Victoria, and the transport control systems In Sydney and Melbourne. Before the Australian trip, however. Mr. Semple will have a crov.’ded programme of travel to cover in New Zealand. It is his intention to visit first all the major public works in hand throughout New Zealand, and, secondly, to tour the various counties and personally look into reading needs. “I desire to have talks with the men on public works," said the Minister yesterday, “and to make clear what they want from me and also what I want from them. It will be necessary for me to work at top speed, but I think it is essential that I should see for myself what is being done on pub lie works.” The Minister will leave Wellington this morning for Napier and Gisborne to inspect the railway construction works between those centres. He will also visit the Waikaremoana hydro electric works, and go on to Rotorua. Mr. Semple will return to Wellington next Tuesday in order to attend the caucus of the Government Party. On the following Saturday he will leave for Blenheim, inspect the South Island ‘main trunk railway construction, and then go over to the West Coast for the purpose of inspecting the new Lewis Pass road.
