There " r as a record attendance at the weekly card evening held last night at the headquarters of the Kilbirnie R.S.A., and the committee had difficulty in finding sufficient seating accommodation for all those who desired to take part. However, the problem was solved, and a very enjoyable evening for all resulted. In addition to the cards, the ladies’ committee held a “bring and buy” stall in aid of the local effort; for tlae Health. Camp ITtvnd, and a very successful sale of produce aud goods resulted. The amount raised will exceed that of last year’s effort. The stall was conducted by Mesdames Coira and East, aud the financial result reflects great credit on the time and energy these ladies, in conjunction with other members of the ladies’ committee, gave to the object. Mr. P. Coira, on behalf of the committee and the P. and T. Department, thanked all those who had made the effort a success. He also asked the gathering to remember the concert to be held next week by the Tin Hat Club in aid of disabled soldiers in hospital. The winners at bridge were Mrs. G. F. Disney and Mr. 1,. O. Barnet, and the best scores for “500” were returned by Mrs. Laughlan and Mrs. Reese. At the ladies’ afternoon held recently the prizes were won by Mrs. Allport and Mrs. Cull.

Interior bacon can be improved by first placing slices in cold water and allowing them to boil two minutes. Drain and fry till crisp.
