HALLOW-E’EN PARTY

Wellington Caledonian Society The festival of Hallow-e’en was celebrated in fitting manner by the Wellington Caledonian Society. Hallow-e’en and the witches’ part was made famous by Robert Burns, and on this evening, when the witches are supposed to be about, the families in olden times gathered round the fireside and indulged in games of roasting the nuts and dooking for apples. At the Wellington celebration the attendance of children and their parents was the largest in the history of the society, and with dooking for apples and other games the children spent a happy time. Mr. W. A. Blair, assisted by Miss Lulu Clark and members of the social committee, kept things moving merrily. Those who could do Highland dancing gave exhibitions of their prowess. Miss Edna Whitelaw, Leah Kerr, Peggy Tovey and Peggy McKinnon gave an Irish reel. Audrey Cuthbert the Highland fling, Jean Kerr and Daisy Marshall an Irish jig, Pegg.v Smythe a song and dance. Ann Boe a waltz tap dance, Peter Currie the sailor’s hornpipe, and Kay Grieve and Jack Dexter each contributed a recitation. Pipe-Major C. Stewart provided the pipe music for the children's dances. A dance was held after supper, with Mr. J. Stirling as M.C. Mrs. McGowan played the dance music, assisted by Mr. A. Barclay on the pipes.
