HOUGHTON BAY

Visit by Mayor and City Engineer Since the annual meeting of the Houghton Valley Progressive Association, the district has been visited by the mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, who was accompanied by the city engineer, Mr. K. E. Luke, who took advantage of the visit to look into several matters with which the association is concerned. The chief of these is the condition of Houghton Bay Road, Houghton Terrace and Buckley Road. These were inspected, and it was admitted that these streets required attention. At the same time it was pointed out that the work involved in putting them in order had been on the estimates for some years past, but had been struck out owing to restricted finance. It was agreed that certain maintenance work should be done as soon as possible, but the most costly work involved would be a matter for consideration by the works committee. The work of surfacing Houghton Bay Road and Hornsey Road is to be included in the estimates of the next financial year. If that is approved by the works committee it might be possible to do part of the work before the winter of 1937.
