OBITUARY

Rev. A. W. Brough News has been received iu Welling- . ton of the death iu Bristol, England. ' of the Rev. A. W. Brough, for more than 40 years a missionary in South India, attached to the London Missionary Society. Mr. Brough, who bad been seriously ill for some months, died on November 16. Before his retire ment about two years ago be made several visits to New Zealand on behalf of the London Missionary Society and he had many friends in Wellington as well as iu other parts of the country. His widow was formerly Miss J. W. Inglis, of Christchurch. Mr. Brough’s missionary services iu India were of a notable character, so much so that lie was known to a wide circle as "Brough of Erode.” Foi special services during his missionary career he was awarded the Kisr-i-Hind Medal. Before entering the ministry. Mr. Brough, who graduated at Sydney University, was an architect, and a fitting memorial to him is a-remark-able church, built to his design at Erode. This building is famous for its beauty. Mr. Brough began his career iu tlie ministry at Newcastle, New South Wales, where lie had the Cougrega tioual eba rge. Mr. 11. W. Reid The death occurred yesterday at Dunedin, a I’ress Association message states, of Mr. Henry William Reid, aged 74, a member of the well-known firm of John Reid and Sous, Ltd. Mr. Reid qualified as a surveyor and civil engineer early in life, and was concerned iu some big surveys in Otago. Canterbury and Westland, He was also engaged in the survey and laying of the three cable tramlines in Dunedin. He subsequently joined bis father’s firm. He was a well-known figure on the Dunedin Stock Exchange which adjourned yesterday morning in respect to bis memory. Mr. Reid was a keen bowler, and was a member of (lie first New Zealand team to visit Australia in 1906. He is survived by his wife, two sons tint/ a daughter. Mr. R. Dunce After a brief illness, the death occurred on Monday of Mr. R. Dunce, of Taranaki Street, Wellington. Mr. Dunce had an accident in the city about 10 days ago. which resulted in a fractured skull, and although it was not anticipated that the accident would prove fatal, developments occurred at the week-end. Mr. Dunce was born in Surrey, England, in 1574, and went to sea at an early age. For a number of years lie was chief steward ou sev oral well-known ocean liners, ami eventually settled in Wellington. Mr. Dunce married Miss Emily Murpb.i elder daughter of the late Mr. aml Mrs. W. K. Murphy, of Taranaki Street. Mr, Dunce is survived by his widow three sons and a daughter. Messrs. M E. Dunce. Carterton: Charles and Ken noth Dunce. Wellington, and Mis“ Edna Dunce, who is an active member of the Technical College Old Students’ Association. The late Mr. Dunce bad no other relatives in New Zealand, hut lias a brother and sister resident in Farnham Surrey. Mr. Edwin Dunce and Mrs. W Evans. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Percy Paris conducting a short ser vice at the residence and afterward at rhe crematorium, Karori. The cortege was a large one. and tlie chief mourn ers were the three sons of the de ceased and his brothers-in-law, Messrs. Joint. Robert. Charles, and Harold Murphy. ,
