OPERATION AT SEA
Ship’s Engineer With Appendicitis By Telegraph—Press Association Auckland, November 18. A successful operation on a patient suffering from appendicitis and peritonitis was performed by the ship’s surgeon of the Rangitata, Dr. Miller, tlie day before the liner reached Colon The patient was Mr. N. Sharp, sixth engineer of the vessel, which arrived from London to-day. It had beim hoped to postpone the operation until the Rangitata reached Colon, but this proved impossible. An operating table anti all necessary equipuietil was available ou Ute liner mid. owing to line weather mid lack ol vibration it was not even necessary for the ship to he stripped. A passen ger. Dr. Mathers, ml ministered the anesthetic, and Miss Paisley and Miss Bussell, passengers, who had training as nurses, assisted. Mr. Sharp was left in hospital at Colon.
