REFUSAL TO ’MEET THE KING

Labour Members’ Action PROTEST AT CONDITION OF UNEMPLOYED By Telegraph —Press Assn.—Copyright (Received November 17. 11.55 p.m.) London. November 17. A sensation was caused in political circles by the refusal of Labour memhers of the House of Commons. Messrs. A. Bevan and W.’H. Mainwaring, to meet the King when he visits the distressed areas in South Wales on November 18 and 19. Mr. Bevan, In n letter to the Minister of Labour. Mr. Brown, who is accompanying His Majesty, pays a tribute to the King’s sympathy with the unemployed, but regrets this should be used to conceal not only the negligence of his Ministers, but their active persecution of the poor. Ho adds that His Majesty’s visit occurs immediately before the imposition of still further reductions in the appallingly low allowances to the unemployed in South Wales.
