Funds for the' purchase of an aeroplane specially designed for the carriage of sick or injured persons are being sought by the Auckland Aero Club, a movement supported by the Auckland centre of the St. John Ambulance Association. Designed to land and take off in constricted spaces, so that special landing grounds will not be necessary for it, the plane will provide a means of safe and quick transport for patients from remote districts, especially from North Auckland and the Bay of Plenty. The plane will remain the property of and will be maintained by the Auckland Aero Club, and will be officered by the club’s pilotsSeveral aero clubs have machines which can, if required, take stretcher cases, but these are planes designed primarily for air-taxi work, being converted for ambulance service only when necessity arises.
