CRICKET COACHING

Wellington Arrangements

SUPPLY OF NEW BALLS

Arrangements for coaching were made at a meeting of tbe management committee of tbe Wellington Cricket Association last night. Mr. W. A. Baker, the former Wellington and New Zealand representative, offered to coach University and Karori players at Kclburn on Tuesday afternoons, and players recommended by other clubs at the Basin Reserve on Wednesdays and. Thursdays. It. was decided to call for nominations from clubs for tho coaching at the Basin Reserve. Mr. Baker was also appointed to supervise representative practice. Mr. A. W. Dunean said that it would bo some time before players were chosen for representative practice. Mr. Baker is to organise the representative practices and to coach those players who desire it,. several members expressing the opinion that most representative players did not require coaching iu the ordinary way, though it was desirable that the practices should be properly organised and conducted.

.The Wellington Umpires’ Association asked for a direction as to the practice to be followed in the supply of new balls. It was stated that the association did not have a rule on tbe point, but it was believed that an instruction had been given some years ago to clubs. The senior championship committee was instructed to investigate the position and to prepare a report from which a direction guiding clubs could be formed. It was stated that there was uncertainty as to the responsibility for providing extra new balls at the match between Midland and Kilbirnie, and that Wellington provided three out of four new balls, under the impression that there was a well-established custom, in the match against University. It was decided to remind clubs of the necessity of providing tlie association with the names and addresses of all players. It was stated that this was obligatory under the rules and that without the information the committees were often working largely “in the dark” in making transfers.

Victoria University College was granted permission to play Canterbury University College on the Basin Reserve on November 30 and December 1, provided arrangements could be made for practice nets to be in position on the 'Tuesday.

Wellington College applied for permission to play Wanganui Collegiate School on December 11 and 12 at Wellington. The application was referred to the junior championship committee to see if arrangements could bo made for the match to be played without interfering with the lower-grade' championship competitions.

It was decided ' to ask clubs tor nominations for the junior representative team before December®6. Mr. J. H. Phillipps presided over an attendance of Messrs. W. A. Baker, L. J. Brabin, J. R. Stevens. J. S. Hanna. A. Roualdson, A. W. Duncan, C. W. D. Bell, C. Moore (umpires’ association), J. E, Banks (treasurer) and A. Varney (secretary).
