RIFLE SHOOTING

Erratic Scoring at Trentham REAR FISHTAIL WIND Wellington defence rifle clubs continued their championship and competition matches at Trentham on Saturday afternoon, the 500 yards being used The weather was tine, but a rear tishtail wind caused very erratic shooting. Conditions Improved about 4 o’clock, and from then on the scoring was much better. Petone Club The Petone Kifle Club tired a further mutch counting for the second series, Burridge Cup aud longfield handicap aggregate competitions. Ar 500 yards the club standard is 4», and, despite the weather conditions and smaller bull's-eye now being used at this distance, it was pleasing to note that no fewer than 17 rauge scores equalled or bettered the standard. The outstanding range scores were registered by B. H. Nicholl, 48 and 4u (a nine “bull'’ finish); T. B. Richards. 47 and IS; R. MeKendry and R. J. Hayston, 48 each; D E. Cameron. 40. The leading aggregates off the gun were secured by R- H. NichoU, 97 out of the possible 100; T. B. Richards. 95; b. €. HigKins, C. E. Tanner and J. Devine, 94 each; R MeKendry, P. Stewart a’»d W. H. Ballinger, 93 each. A pleasing feature of the day’s shooting was the marked improvement shown by so m.any of the newer members, among whom the outstanding D E. Cameron. 43 and 49 (a seven “bull finish); R. J. Hayston, 39 and 48; R. McGrath. 42 and 45; S. Nicholl (the club s youngest member), 43 and 42. Next Saturday the day’s, shooting will count for the same competitions, the range for the day being 600 yards. Saturday's scores were as follows:

Suburbs Club The Suburbs club -continued championship and competition shooting ut 500 yards. As the results indicate, a number of members were unlucky in not reaching the coveted possible. L. Fellingham is rapidly regaining his 1934 form, and will make his presence felt at the next N.R.A, meeting. Saturday’s scores were:—

Karori Club

The Karori club tired the second matcl# of Its championship at 500 yards. G. G. Kelly negotiated the conditions best, and headed the list with a standard shoot of 94. Four handicap men reached the standard with their handicaps, the best being 11. H. King, who used only one of his handicap points. It Ip too early yet in the season's programme to place the leaders In the club s aggregates but in the two matches which have now been tired H. V Croxton has the best aggregate off the gun. with ISA, H. Fraukland being uext with 18-1. It. Bradey and B. I‘. Doyle are equal in the handicap class. With 1815 each.
