WEDDINGS

Small —Howie The wedding took “place recently at Koeke of Joan Olive, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Howie, and Kenneth McKay Small, Masterton. The ceremony took place on the lawn of “Wharenui,” the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Howie. A small platform had been erected on the tenuis lawn and on this the officiating clergyman, the Rev. E. T. King, of St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Taihape, stood and awaited the bridal procession which came from the house and across the beautiful lawn. The wedding march was played on a piano by Mrs. C. Bowick, Hunterville, accompanied on a violin by Mr. Harris, Turakina.

. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in her frock of magnolia satin riche cut, on slimming lines, with high cowl neckline finished at the back with buttons to the waistline. The full bishop sleeves were inset with tine lace medallions. The long train was heavily appliqued in lace. She carried a lovely bouquet of arum lilies and lilies of the valley. The bridesmaids were the Misses Florence and Lucy Howie (sisters of the bride) and Mrs. K. Cummins, Marton. They were dressed alike in powder blue frocks of tree bark crepe, with high cowls, find closely buttoned to the waistline. The full sleeves were inset with silver lame. The dresses, were finished with panels from the waistline to form short trains. The little flower girl, Maggie Howie, sister of the bride, wore a knee length frock of the same material with flared skirt, shirred yoke and roll collar. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr. D. Small. Wellington, and Messrs. T. Howie and P. Morton.

The bride’s mother wore a handsome ensemble of floral navy silk and carried a bouqut of red anemones and ranunculi set off with autumn leaves. The bridegroom’s mother was in a black and white ensemble and carried a bouquet of mauve cinerarias and purple leaves. Mrs. W. Howie, grandmother of the bride, was in black satin and carried a bouquet of purple flowers. After the wedding cermony the guests assembled at the hall nearby, and in the evening a dance was held at which Mr. Austen Charles was M.C. Songs were given by Mesdames T. Amadio and N. Ferguson, Miss P. Howie, Messrs. C. Bowick, A. Charles; a duet by Messrs. Charles and Bowick; a piano duet by Mrs. Bowick and Mrs. Charles, and a quartette by Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Mr. and Mrs. Bowick.
