Tales and Titbits
(By
Peeps.)
A writer says that marriage is seldom a failure when the husband ami wife have something in common to laugh at. Well, there is always the photograph of the wedding group. Tough’ Even while Colonel T. H. Dawson’s plea for more he-men was echoing round New Zealand, Wellington people were tramping on the Tararuas. Nor Is that all. One group that donned weatherproof coats and went forth to dare the rain at the week-end came back with a tale that would surely have pleased the colonel. As they plunged along in their heavy clothing they heard a sound of singing voice* and came suddenly upon a man and
girl, dressed only in shorts and thin shirts, striding cheerfully through the dripping trees. They were oozing with water and blue with cold, but when their sanity was questioned they grinned cheerfully. “Couldn’t let the rain make us soft,” they said. Strange Diets It seems that Wellington cars have strange tastes when mealtime comes along. Of course, all of them like a buzzing, black fly if it crosses their path, but more curious dishes include cheese, marmite, peanuts and floor polish. One of the oddest creatures of all used to make a habit of jumping on to the kitchen bench and devouring potato peelings. He died young, poor fellow, but his owner swears it was nothing to do with the potatoes.
