GAMING-HOUSE CHARGE
Christchurch Tailor Fined

Christchurch, November 11.
A fine of £25 and costs was imposed on Daniel Francis Hector McDonald, tailor, aged 29, who pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court this morning to a charge of keeping a common gaming-house. Chief Detective Dunlop said , that McDonald was arrested at _ 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon. At the time of his arrest he was taking bets on the trots being run at Addington. While the detect ives were on the pi onuses, the chief detective added, about half a dozen telephone calls were received. The amount of bets taken by McDonald during the morning was approximately £2O. He had been carrying on a betting business for about 12 months. The bets ranged from £1 down to 2/6. HASTINGS MEN FINED By Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, November 11. Fines of £25 ami £5O respectively were inflicted on 'William Gordon Robertson, aged 42, and Francis William Fitzpatrick, aged 64, who were separately charged at the Hastings Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr. J. Miller, S.M., with carrying on business as bookmakers. In the ease of the second accused, the magistrate issued a warning that a future charge would lead to sterner punishment being meted out. Both accused pleaded guilty.
