TAXI INQUIRY
Replies to Questionnaire
CHAIRMAN FEELS INCOMES
UNDER-STATED
By Telegraph—Press Association,
Auckland, November 11,
The chairman of the taxi inquiry committee, Mr. P. M. Butler, stated to-day that on examination of some of the replies to questionnaires submitted by persons in the industry the indications were that there were some cases of earnings being under-stated. “The reason for this is hard to understand,” he said, “but maybe such persons consider that details in the replies to questionnaires will be given to other Government departments.” Mr. Butler emphasised that such was not the case. Any information supplied in the replies will be treated with the strictest confidence and will not be forwarded to any other Government department. Now that the matter had been made clear a serious View would be taken of the men who had made false declarations in forwarding replies, and a further opportunity would be given to those who had made a mistake in underestimating their earnings to rectify this before any further questionnaires were examined. Men requiring a furtheir questionnaire should make application to the Transport Department.
