BELGIAN FASCISTS
Demonstration Banned By Cabinet SOCIALIST CHALLENGE “Street Brawls if Rexists Want Them” By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received October 22. 7.40 p.m.) Brussels. October 21. Cabinet has banned the Rexist (Fascist) demonstrations arranged to take place here on Sunday. The Rexists declare they will defy the ban. The Socialist newspaper, "People,” describes the Rexists demonstration as a provocation, as the Socialists had previously planned a meeting for Sunday. It adds that the workers will not be slow to accept the Rexists’ challenge. "If the Rexists want street brawls they will have them.”
A cable from Brussels dated October 17 stated that M. Paul Spaak, Foreign Minister, announced that the Government was planning a big campaign against the Rexist (Fascist) Party, which, he declared, had no programme. Its aim was to win power without delay and the establishment of a totalitarian State under M. Leon Degrelle’s dictatorship. The country’s middle group must organise to defend its liberties.
The Rexist Party replied to the speech by announcing the demonstration for October 25. Forty-six special trains were to bring Rexists to Brussels from all parts of the country.
