FRENCH CLUB REUNION
Four-act Play Presented A line programme was presented by Mrs. W. Hurstbouse at the recent reunion of the Cercle Francois, the main feature being a reading of Edmond Rostand’s “La Princesse Lointaine,” a romantic four-act piece in verse. This drama was played for the first time in Paris in 1595, with Sarah Bernhardt (to whom it was dedicated) as the “Prineesse.” In 1921) a new version appeared nt the Theatre Sarah-Bernhardt, with Vera Sergine as Melissimle. The story of the pla.v was given by Mrs. Hnrsithouse. and portions were read by Mrs. Miller, Miss Crick, and Dr. Keys. The beauty of lhe verse made ti deep impression, and the pieturesque descriptions were very telling. J During the evening prize book's from tlie French Government and certiiicates gained at the examination in French recently held by the Cercle Francais were presented by Madame O. R. Bendall. (’).A. The highest marks were gained l>y Edward F. C. Hefford. Durie Maysmor, K. .1. Hollyman, F. H. E. Cornish and Pixie Heggin. A pretty saynetc, “Les Vieux” (Alphonse Daudet) was acted by some young performers. Joan Glen, Bo Easther. Hazel Carton. Valerie Vercoe. Betty Kdan and Alice Warner.
Professor F. F. Milos. 0.A., presided and Miss Eleanor PUarazyu received.
