New Name and Hair
“VUE are going to change Mary Maguire’s name and coiffure,’’ said Mr. J. S. Hummell, foreign sales manager for Warner Bros., on his recent arrival in Sydney, speaking in connection with the Australian girl who was lately given a contract in Hollywood.
“We may change the colour of her Maguire has great possibilities. I saw’ the screen tests which we made of her, and the day I left Hollywood wa s the day she was given her contract.”
JJOLLYWOOD producers may forbid x stars to give autographs to those w’bo request them personally. The autograph-collecting situation recently reached, a climax when John Boles, having lunched at a famous Hollywood cafe, had to hurry back to the studio, and therefore could not please the crowd that wanted his signature. One of the young men in the group became boisterous and pugnacious, and used some unpleasant language in the presence of women. Mr. Boles grabbed him by the coat lapels and made him apologise.
