(Britlsii Official Wireless?
Rugby, October 18.
The Home Secretary. Sir John Simon, has intimated bis willingness to receive ;i deputation from the East End of London regarding public .order and the alleged provocative behaviour of Fascist bodies. Tn a speech last night, Mr. Eden referred to the question as being a very .pressing and difficult problem which they should tackle in the single interest of preserving the essentials of British citizenship.
Meanwhile, on the initiative of the Warden of Toynbee Hall, an East End Citizens’ Committee has been set up ,and the presidency has been accepted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, with the object of uniting churches and the social organisations of the district in a united effort to preserve order .through insistence on the principles of self-control and tolerance, which are the essential basis of democracy. ■ Tn this, war the promoters of the movement'hope to prevent deterioration of the situation before it becomes serious. .Rowdyism which has been the cause of the recent, troubles is of such small dimensions that.the authorities .can cope easily with it if and as long as the public themselves, avoid becoming involved.
