TASMAN SERVICE
Land Planes or Flying-
boats?
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Auckland, October 21
The question of the relative advantage for the Tasman Sea crossing of flying-boats or aeroplanes may be revived as a result of Miss Jean Batten’s brilliant flight in a single-engined land machine.
In view of recent official discussions on the question of an air mail and passenger service across the Tasman Sea, the Postmaster-General.. Hon. F. Jones, was asked if the flight possessed any significance. “There is no doubt,” said Mr. Jones, “that there is a considerable body of expert opinion in Australia which favours the use of flying-boats for the crossing. It is very possible now that the question will be raised by adherents of land machines as to whether flying-boats are most suitable.”
