DETECTIVE AND SON SURRENDER
Echo of Lindbergh Case i Received October 21, 8.15 p.m.) Mount Holly (New Jersey), Oct. 20. Ellis Parker and his sou, indicted in April with the kidnapping of Paul Wendei, surrendered to-day, under bench warrants, to the Federal authorities. No specific charge was divulged at their arraignment. ’The father was released on bail of 25.000 dollars and the son on 10,000 dollars.
The Lindbergh case produced a sequel at New York with the indictment of four men for kidnapping Paul Wendei, whose “confession” of murdering the baby gained Hauptmann three days of life after he had been scheduled to die. stated a cable of April 26 from New York. One of those indicted is Ellis Parker, junior, son of the famous New Jersey detective, whom Governor Hoffman employed in an attempt to prove Hauptmann innocent. According to the charge, Parker, jun., and his accomplices assaulted Wendel at New York, kidnapped him. and held him prisoner. while he was transported to New Jersey.
The case developed in startling fashion when Ellis Parker, jun., eluded the police. He is alleged to have determined to avoid indictment on the kidnapping charge. New Jersey officials have curtly ordered Ellis Parker to arrest his son on sight.
