SAVOLDI BEATS DAVIS
Much Showmanship
Dominion Special Service Wanganui, October 7. By two falls to one, Jumping Joe Savoldi, 15.4, defeated Wee Willie Davis, 18.6, in the seventh round in the Opera House, which was full to-night. The bojit was marked by lack of actual wrevtlingt both men concentrating on a display of sbowmanehip. Savoldi was übvioutsiv too good a wrestler for Davis, but allowed the latter to do all the offensive work. Savoldi demonstrated his enormous strength on several occasions, especially when he lifted Davis in a bridge without exerting his full strength and then resisting Davis’s efforts to knock him back to the mat. Savoldi showed himself as a master of dropkicks. Davis spent most of his time in rocking in forearm jolts and frequent punches. He did his best to make himself unpopular with the audience, and in this direction was successful. Davis scored the first fall at 4min. ssec. in the fourth round, with a body press, following a series of dumps and forearm jolts. Savoldi equalised at 3min. lOs'ec. in the sixth round. He feigned grogginess. and when Davis attempted a flying tackle bumped him over the ropes so that he landed on his back. Davis came back to meet a barrage of drop-kicks and dumps, and was pinned with a body press. Davis was groggy when he came out for the seventh round and was pinned in a body press at ISsec. after two drop-kicks, two dumps, and two more drop-kicks. Davis had to be assisted to his corner. Mr. A. Anderson, Palmerston North, was referee. WIN FOR McCREADY By Telegraph—Press Association. Tiniaru, October 7. McCready to-night defeated Peneheff on pointe over eight rounds before the largest house seen in Tiniaru. The bout was a most disappointing one, there being very little solid wrestling and a preponderance of showmanship. The pair were not well matched, McCready carrying his opponent throughout. BLOMFIELD BEATS KRUSE By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, October 7. In a professional wrestling bout last evening Blomfield defeated Kruse, the contest coming to an end early in the eight round when Kruse crawled out under the ropes and lay prone while the referee counted him out. Blomfield in the previous round had secured a fall with his octopus clamp, and Kruse was assisted to his corner. Kruse in the fourth round had obtained a fall by means of wristloeks and a body press.
