HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT
Attractive Programme Before a full house the annual concert of the Hutt Valley High School was given in King George Theatre, Lower Hutt, last evening. The programme was of a very high standard. The high school band, under the leadership of Mr. T. Gray, commenced the programme with a spirited playing of the school march. “Tim” and “Joe" (N. Grant and S. L. Young) then presented a clever skit on school life, dealing particularly with “penalty work,” imposed on late-comers, who enjoyed the privilege, after school hours, of doing work about the grounds. The tale, cautionary in nature, was intended as a warning to the unwary. “Our Office” (with apologies to “Punch”) was topical and provoked much mirth. The cast comprised Miss Orpington, Jeau Grant; Miss Moiid, Joan Cowie; Mr. Cholmodley. E. J. Lewis; Sidney, B. Glennie; Horace. A. Treaseder. A Spanish dance in costume by Jack Glennie was warmly applauded. The concluding item of the first portion of the programme was a one-act play. “The Crimson Cocoanut.” by lan Hay, the cast being: Robert, the waiter, F. R. Okeby; J. Pincher. a detective, R. D. Williams; Nancy Jabstick, his daughter. Gloria Dysart; Nitro Gliserinski, Z. S. Garvitch ; Madaine Gliserinski, Jovce Carter. A camp fire, round which members of the boys’ tramping club feat, was picturesque, and their singing of popular .choruses attractive. "A Winter's Frolic,” by junior girls in charming costumes, was very pleasing. The senior girls followed with a Swedish traditional dance in costume by the intermediate girls, a valse by senior girl® in Grecian costume, and a drill by eenior boys brought to a close an exceedingly enjoyable programme.
