Price Movements At Yesterday’s Sales

Sheep met a linn market at. Addington yesterday. Stores recovered the loss in values at the previous sale. Spring lambs advanced _/-, wethers ’’7- and ewes 2/6. Beef values were easier by 20/- to -a/- a m d best makin- 36/- to 3S/- per 1001 b. At Stortford Lodge fat cattle were’ firm, but. stores were in over-supply and eased. Sheep were firm ami unchanged. There was a firm market for all classes' of sheep at to-day’s Addington market, but a drop in fat cattle values. Store sheep: A much smaller entry and a larger attendance of buyers. Wether hoggets more than recovered last week’s drop of 1/6. while ewes and lambs showed a further slight firming. Best ewes and lambs sold to 22/6; wether hoggets, to 26/9; ewe hoggets, to 33/9. _ Spring lambs: An entry of 100 sold spiritedly at a 2/- increase in value, recovering last week’s drop. Fat sheep: About 4090 were penned, and with the smaller entry, there was a much unproved sale, wethers being better by 2/-, and ewes by 2/6. Best wethers made 36/- to -10/-; medium, 31/- to 35/-. Best ewes, 30/- to 37/-; medium, 25/- to 29/-. Fat cattle: 509 were penned, mostly of excellent quality, but the over-supply caused an easing of 20/- to 25/- a head for steers, and less for cows and heifers. Best, beef made from 36/- to 3.8/- a 1001 b.; good, 34/- to 35/6; inferior, down to 30/-. A show steer made £2O/2/6; other heavy weights, £l5 to £l7/7/6; good, £l2/10/- to £l4/10/-; best heifers, £ll to £l3/10/-; good, £9 to £lO/10/-; best cows, £9/10/- to £l2; good, £8 to W5/-. There was a substantial easing iu the value of beef at the Burnside stock sale to-day, and mutton was also cheaper. The yarding of fat cattle was large, 255 head being forward. Prime buUocks realised £l4/17/6 to £l6/17/6; best heifers, £6/12/6 to £lO/2/6; best cows, £6/12/6 to £lO. About 200 head of store cattle were forward, including several pens of well-bred three and four-year-old steers, which brought up to £9/5/-. Good, fresh young cows made to £5. The entry of dairy cows was disposed of at recent values, best sorts realising to £6/7/6. The yarding of fat sheep totalled 2aoo. At the commencement prices showed a drop on last week's values, and eased further as the sale progressed. Extra heavy prime wethers made £l/17/- to £2; prime. £l/14/-to £l/16/6; light, down to £l/8/-1 prime heavy ewes, £l/12/- to £l/15/o; -prime, £l/8/- to £l/11/-; best quality hoggets. £l/6/6 to £l/10/-. Values at Stortford Lodge

Fat cattle met a bright market at Stortford Lodge to-day when values for prime sorts improved on last week. Heavy Bullocks were in demand, making to £l3 13/-; best prime cows, to £9/12/-; medium to heavy, £7 to £8; light finished and inferior also were well traded. Good heifers were again in short supply, best medium heavy making to £9/12/-. A large yarding of store cattle saw an easing in values, many sorts dropping up to £1 a head, while passings were frequent in a dull and dragging sale, steers principally being affected, yearlings in comparison doing much better than two and three-year-old sorts. Best grown bullocks were hard to quit at to £B/12/-. Store sheep were again in good demand being traded at little change .in values. Fat sheep fully maintained last week’s recovered levels, exceptional wethers reaching the record level of 38/-. Best heavy prime ewes made to 36/2; medium to heavy, 28/- to 31/-; prime shorn ewes made to 25/10, the market being bright and keen for all sorts. Wanganui Values Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, October 7. At the Wanganui sale to-day Freeman R. Jackson and Co. had a good yarding of 1000 sheep, 800 cattle, and 112 pigs, with a good sale and a total clearance. Store sheep sold very freely. Both fat cattle and fat sheep were decidedly easier,, more sb fat cattle. Oyer 700 store cattle were yarded, and prices were hardly as high as at some recent sales. Cattle: Jersey heifers on drop, £3/5/- to £4/10/-. Pigs: Weaners, 14/- to 18/-; slips, 18/to 23/9. Johnsonville Sale An average yarding of cattle a.mi a large sheep offering were forward at the Johnsonville sale held yesterday by Wright, Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., and Abraham aud illianis. Ltd.- Prime heavv cattle mot a ready sale at prices up 5/- on last week’s rates, medium cattle were unchanged, while light ami unfinished sorts were slightly easier. Several pens of exceptionally prime heavyweight cows and heifers met with spirited coinpetition. Medium and plain cows were down 10/- to 15/- per head. No cows ex dairy were yarded. The' yarding of runners and vealers was of 'indifferent quality and met with little demand. The wethers comprised chiefly heavyweight sheep with a few pens of medium and unfinished sorts. Prime heavy wethers and mediumweight sheep showed no alteration. The yarding of ewes was of exceptionally good quality, comprising extra heavyweight sheep with a few pens of light and unfinished sorts. All classes met with a ready sale, prices for heavyweight sheep being 1/- firmer, and for light aud unfinisred sheep, no alteration. The hoggets yarded were of poor quality, and prices were 1/- to 1/6 per head easier. There was the usual yarding of good quality spring lambs, but owing to the drop in wholesale prices there was not the keen demand for lambs that there was the previous week, prices being in some cases; easier to the extent of 2/- to 2/6 per head for heavyweights and 1 /- to 1 ''6 for light lambs.
