Fruit Market Steady Very little change took place in th* Wellington fruit and vegetable market yesterday as compared with last week's sales. Lemons were once again plentiful, and parsley was in good' demand. The following prices are reported by the Wellington Master Grocers' Association :— Groceries and ProvisionsSugar.—The new wholesale price of sugar is £24/11/-, ex wharf. The retail prices are 16/9 per 701 b. bag, cash over counter, to 17/6 booked and delivered; lib. Bid., 21b. 6jd„ 31b. 10d., 41b, 1/1, 61b. 1/7|. Flour. —Wholesale price for sack lots ex store, £l/9/-. Retail: 51b. 1/-; 251 b. loose, 4/-; 251 b. calico bag®, 4/6; 501 b. 8/6; 1001 b., 16/6, booked and delivered. Bacon.—Wholesale price for sides, 1/Ib.; rolls, 1/li lb. Retail prices from lOd. lb. for shoulder pieces with bone, to shoulder rashers. 1/2 and middle Cut rashers at 1/5 lbButter.—Wholesale price superfine, 1/2J. Retail prices from 1/2 for whey to 1/4 for finest grade. Tea.—Retail from 2/2 lb. for No. 3 standard, to 2/6 for choicest hill-grown. Honey.—Bulk honey, 6}d. to 7d. lb. Cartons, plain label, 6d.; finest clover lOd. lb. Sundries —Australian rice 3d; sago. 3Jd.; tapioca, 3|d.; split peas, 3Jd.; pearl barley, 3d; desiccated coconut, 7d; Australian peaches, seconds, 1/2; firsts, 1/3; jams, second grade, 7d and 1/1; cheese, mild, lOd.; strong, 1/-; seeded raisins, 12oz. 7d.; sultanas, 6d. and Bd. lb.; sheep tongues, 1/4; Gear meats, 1/6; tinned milk, sd. and 9d.; unsweetened milk, 3|d. and 6d.; cream, 4d.; toilet soap (40z.), 5 for 1/-; candles, lOd. Bread. —Fixed price, lid. for 41b. loaf, 5Jd. for 21b. loaf. This applies to Wellington City, Eastbourne, Lower Hutt and Petone. . , , Eggs.—Local wholesale price, 1/1 tor A grade, 1/- for B grade. Retail prices 1/3 and 1/2 respectively. Fruit and Vegetables. There was hardly any change in the markets yesterday in comparison with last week’s sales. Good cauliflowers were from 8/- to 10/- per sack, with poorer grades at 3/6 to 5/-. Spring cabbages were 3/- to 4/- per crate of two dozen. Carrots and parsnips were very plentiful, being as low as 2/6 per sack. Bunches of carrots found a ready sale at 3/- per dozen bunches. Mint was unsaleable at Id. per bunch. Spinach, 6/3 erate (good;. lemons are once again plentiful, and fetched 8/-' to 12/- according to size. Rhubarb is being placed on the market in bigger quantities, and prices are easier. Forced rhubarb, small bunch 4a., large lOd. Spring rhubarb, 6d. to 9d.; winter rhubarb, 4d. to 5d.. all per single bunch. Leeks (small), 3d. per dozen, large sd. to 7d. per dozen. Radishes Id. bunch. Lettuce (small), 3/-crate, good hearts 5/6 crate. Parsley was in good demand at sd. per bunch. Grapes, Caafornian black ribier, 24/- per case 341 b. Potatoes. —The higher price has steadied the market. Potatoes are very plentiful, with quotations slightly easier at £9/5/- to £9/10/-. Retail prices'. 9lb. 1/- 281 b. 2/9 to 3/-, according to quality. Onions.—The market continues to be glutted, and onions in very bad condition were sold as low as 1/- per bag. Good quality Pukekohe onions are worth about 8/- per cental bag. Retail: lia to 24d., according to quality. Further prices for fruit and vegetables quoted in the fruit shops are :— Californian grapefruit, 4d and M. each; New Zealand grapefruit, 4to 6 1/-’, Californian oranges, 6 for 1/-; Australian oranges, 4, 5 and 6 1/-; pineapples, 1/3 to 1/6 each ; bananas, 8 to 12 1/-; lemons, New Zealand, 8, 12 and 16 1/-; Californian, 4 for 1/-; grapes, 1/4 to 1/9 lb.; mandarins, 5 and 12 1/-. . Cauliflowers, 2d, and 6d. each; cabbage. Id. to 6d.; lettuce, 2d. to 3d.; carrots, 2d. and 3d bunch; parsnips, 3d bunch ; swedes ijd. lb.; marrows.
