SPIRITUALIST WEDDING
First Held in Wellington For the first time in Wellington a wedding was solemnised in the Christian Spiritualist Church in Willis Street on Saturday afternoon, when Mrs. Jessie Martell was married to Mr. Charles Henry Jones. It was the second wedding conducted in New Zealand by a woman cleric, the Rev. Mrs. E. M. Cralgie. The form of the service was based on that of the Anglican Church, but spiritualist prayers were added. The bride, who was given away by a friend, Mr. J. Boyd, wore a slimfitting frock of saxe blue chantilly lace over satin, with a wide-brimmed barribuntal straw hat of matching blue. She carried a sheaf of lemon arum lilies. The bridesmaid, Miss Nina Webb, was dressed in turquoise taffetas with small hat to tone, and had a bouquet of yellow and gold flowers. As the bridal pair were leaving the church after the service they were met by little Beverley Hall, dressed in pink organdie with an old-fashioned pink bonnet. She handed the bride a bouquet of pink and white carnations. Mr. T. Rowlands was best man and Mrs. I. Kempton, a friend of the bride, was usher. Mr. H. B. Chew played the wedding music. A reception and social evening was afterward held in the church building, where the tables were beautifully decorated on a gold-and-blue scheme. Among the guests were Mr. R. Martell, .son of the bride, and Mrs. H. Hutchings, daughter of the bride.
