DRAFTING OF AWARDS
Criticism by Lawyer
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, September 18.
The statement that many existing industrial awards were extremely cumbersome and in great need of recasting was made in the Arbitration Court this morning by an Auckland lawyer, Mr. Lisle Aiderton. He said there were many instances of awards being cluttered up by annual additions to what was frequently an ill-conceived structure in the original form. Many clauses were obsolete but were still retained. Some extraordinary clauses were inserted in awards, childish in their objects, and sources of irritation, added Mr. Aiderton. He realised the difficulty of recasting, but suggested that drafting of the form should be a matter for expert draftsmen attached to the court. Mr. Justice Page agreed, remarking that the court soon would try to draft a standard form of award.
