FOXTON FIELDS

Carnarvon Gold Cup PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY Track in Good Order

(By

The Watches.)

Good fields of fair quality, including New Zealand Cup candidates, will parade for the spring meeting of the Foxton Racing Club to-day. The smallest field is in the principal event, the Carnarvon Gold Cup, but the seven carded will provide a good contest In fact, seven or eight for the Foxton track is, a very con-veniently-sized field and eliminates interference.

The club some time back reverted to the single pool (75-25) betting system, and this will be in operation to-day. The track is in excellent order, and will provide good going. The card is as follows: —

There is not much in the way of form in the Trial Stakes. Mazzini, Mirth, Patagonia, and Kia Ora have raced lately but on the whole the form is not impressive. The Trentham pair, Liane and The Pawnbroker, may make most appeal to backers.

The form of Royal Ring and Court Arma at Wanganui may see them best backed in the hurdles. Red Rufus and Bazaine should be possibilities, and Limning may improve. The best backed may be Royal King and Court Arma. 1.20— MOTUITI HACK HANDICAP, of £BO.

Finuesko failed at Wanganui, but should go better on the Foxton track. Lord Moutda, Dorado, Terry, Garter Red, and Windward should show up. The class is not strong and favourites may be Finuesko and Garter Red. 2.0—

Dungarvan improved with a race at Wanganui, and although his previous and only effort over a distance at Awapuni was not very convincing he should run well here. West Tor will be backed on his Wanganui form, and although Fersen missed there he had better be judged on his New Plymouth win, where he’beat the subsequent double winner at Wanganui, Royal Secret. Lapel’s form is worth consideration. The lightweights.all have a chance at their best . Favourites may be Fersen and Lapel (or Dungarvan). 2.45—

Stroller looks like being a firm favourite and he should be'bard to beat. Invictus, if he goes right, should be very prominent The remainder will have to improve a lot, though Taura Lad may be a possibility. Most money may come for Stroller and Invictus. 3.30—

Hunting Maid was unlucky at Wanganui, though in this field she may again experience difficulty in getting a good run from the back Taumau, Warehi, Ruaform, La Parleuse, Cloudy Bay and Middle look possibilities. The best sup ported may be Hunting Maid and Warehi (or Middle). 4.14— ~ - ;' KOBINSON HANDICAP, ot £lOO. Seven furlongs.

Hazoor will probably be short of rac ing. but Gay Boy and Full Throttle both appeal on their form at Wanganui. Jubilee Song runs well at Foxton, au’l both Bodyline and Miss Hushabye should show up. Favourites are likely to be Gay Boy and Full Throttle. 4.55—

A good beginning will be essential in the concluding event Previous running may throw some light on prospects, but the best-backed may be First Chapter and Garter Red.
