SPRING BLOOMS AT OTAKI

“An Admirable Display” Dominion Special Service. Otaki, September 18. Entries totalling 300, of which 300 represented the daffodil classes..contributed to what the judges described ae “an admirable show of blooms,” at the Otaki Spring Flower Show, which was opened this afternoon by Mrs. Knox Gilmer, of Wellington. The champion of champions trophy went to Mrs. F. R. Wright, of Levin, and the champion trumpet bloom

was shown by Mrs. A- Dolman, of Waikanae. The cup donated by the president, Mr. C. F Atmore, and Dr. Atmore, for the highest aggregate of points in the single bloom section, was won by Mr. H. Witchell, Otaki.

If the Otaki Horticultural Society can achieve its aim of a membership of 100. it hopes to be able to bring about a great advance in the amateur growing of daffodils in the district, said Mr. Atmore. Expressing congratulations B the committee on the satisfactory * display of flowers, Mrs. Gilmer alluded to the public spirit of the society, in conjunction with the borough council, in the matter of road beautifying, by the planting of flowering cherry trees along the Mill Road, and she admonished the schoof children present to take good care of what was as much their possession as that of their- elders.
