PRESERVING FORESTS
Government Will Do All It Can By Telegraph—Press Association. Wairoa, September 17. The present Government intends to do all it can to preserve the remaining forest area in New Zealand, according to a statement made here by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry. The axe and the fire-stick had been used far too much in New Zealand, and, as a result, thousands of acres of the most magnificent scenery had been ruined, said the Minister. Many acres of country had been denuded of growth, and in consequence the country was being called upon to-day to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds to clear rivers of silt sent down off the hills.
