FENCING MATCH

Swords Club Beats Varsity In a spirited foils match at Miss Zena Clarke’s gymnasium the Wellington Swords Club beat Victoria College by 16 wins to 2. The standard of fencing on the part of the Swords Club was good, but the Varsity team showed lack of practice. The evening closed with an exhibition match between Miss Zena Clarke and Godfrey Harcourt, and sabre bouts in which Harcourt, Messenger, Wilson and Standish took part. The military salute was demonstrated by six members of the Swords Club, making a spectacular display. Results were:— Wellington Swords Club: Harcourt, 3 wins: Standish, 3 wins; Morris, 3 wins; Dr. Beeby, 2 wins, 1 loss; Messenger, 3 wins; Wilson, 2 wine, 1 loss. Victoria College: Hutton, 6 losses: Hull, 2 losses, 1 win; Hornsby, 3 losses; Turnbull, 2 losses, 1 win; instone, 3 losses. ‘ The Wellington championships, at present in progress, will bring to a close a successful fencing season.
