FOXTON-BEACH HIGHWAY

Borough Council Prepared To Contribute Toward Sealing Dominion Special Service. Foxton, September 16. At its meeting ou Monday, evening the Foxton Borough Council decided to notify the Manawatu County Council that it desired to liquidate its share of the cost of sealing the Foxton Beach Road within the term of seven years suggested by the Main Highways Board, and that it would be agreeable to its contribution of £25 a year being adjusted to suit the shorter term of the loan. The Highways Board has granted a £3 to £1 subsidy for the work on a sevenyear loan, but the controlling authority objects to the short term of the loan and wants a 21-year term, suggesting that the Foxton Borough Council and the Harbour Board should each contribute £25 a year for 21 years. At its last meeting it decided that it would consider the question of proceeding with the work if the two local bodies contributed. The borough council had nothing official before it. and the Mayor and councillors spoke in favour of a short-term loan, the clerk pointing out the great savings to be effected.
