ROAD CYCLING CLASSIC

Christchurch To Waimate Race rpHE Dominion’s biggest and most important cycling road race will take place on Saturday, October 10, over a course from Christchurch to Waimate, a distance of 145 miles. • Liberal prize-money has been allotted to the event, which will also decide the New Zealand road championship, the rider gaining fastest time securing this coveted honour. The big event is to be controlled by the North Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Athletic, Cycling, and Axemens Union, Mr. P. C. Lucas being the organiser. . The centre has promoted this race for the past fifteen years, the event being responsible for bringing out several Australasian champions, including the sent New Zealand champion, Harry Watson, at present racing in Australia, who has proved himself to be one of the best riders in the Commonwealth, and who a few years ago was a member of the Australian team which competed in the Tour de France, a race of 3300 miles. . The race follows the Timaru to Christchurch race, which was first held in IaJP, and has been held regularly since that date. The course this year has been reversed, the finish being at Waimate. * With paved ronds practically throughout the 145 miles’ course, the. race promises to be an exceptionally interesting one and will, as usual, attract entries from all over the Dominion.
