Government Buildings x on Fire (From “The Dominion,’.’ Sept. 18, 1911.) Excitement wag a-tiptoe in the city last evening when it was known that the Government Buildings, “the largest wooden buildings in the world," were on fire, and„soon some hundreds of people collected in Lambton Quay and round other sides of the block. Fortunately the fire was confined to the Stamp Department office where it originated, and as there was a good pressure of water at the time, the flames never seriously threatened to envelop the mam building. There was something approaching a stampede from the Parliament Buildings and their precincts when it was announced that an outbreak of fire had occurred at the Government Buildings. Some difficulty was .experienced in getting enough members together to form a quorum, so that the House might be adjourned for a time. * ' t A Royal Commission on Melbourne Metropolitan traffic has reported in favour of the electrification of the suburban railways and tramways scheme. This will involve an outlay of over £5,OO0;OOO. e9®©®©©oo®9©®®©d6oooooo©oe
