Meagre hopes of an alliance between England and Germany are entertained by Mr. G. H. Exeter, a Loudon lawyer and a former chairman of the Harrow Municipality, who arrived at Auckland by the Wanganella from Sydney, in the course of a world tour. In spite of a fairly general feeling in Great Britain that such an alliance would do a tremendous amount of good, Mr. Exeter said he had an idea that the old Junker spirit still prevailed in Nazi Germany, to a greater extent than was thought, and might well be the cause of making au alliance impossible.
