SEVERE FLOODING
Torrential Rain North of
Auckland TRANSPORT HALTED By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, August 23. Severe flooding in many parts of North Auckland, with consequent interruption of rail and road services and stock losses in some districts, followed torrential rain which fell throughout the northern part of the province on Friday and Saturday. The rain censed on Saturday night in most parts, and with fine weather to-day there was a marked improvement, the flood waters receding as rapidly as they had risen. The rainfall in the city for the 48 hours ended at midnight on Saturday was 6.39 in.. 4.14 in. having fallen since midnight on Friday. There was minor flooding in the city and suburbs. Heavy rain fell in the south of Auckland, particularly in the Franklin district. but the flooding was of minor nnr*o. and no damage is reported. HEAVY RAINS ON WEST COAST By Telegraph—Prefs Association. Greymouth, August 23. Heavy rains occurred along the West Coast over the week-end, four inches being recorded here in 4S hours. Many streams were flooded, but no damage is reported.
