Commercial Bank of Sydney The report of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney shows a profit of £298,227 for the year ended June 30 last, which is £34.290 better than the profit of 1934-35. Divdend is 6 per cent, compared with 5 per cent, of the previous year. A sum of £284,341 is absorbed by the dividend, which represents a little more than 3 per cent, on the shareholders' funds (capital reserve and carry forward. in all £9.149,238). A sum of £25,009 is transferred to bank premises account and £110.226 is carried forward, against £121,’339 brought forward. The balance-sheet comparison shows that the demand for accommodation lias increased the requirements of customers causing an expansion of £913,603 in advances and bills discounted. Deposits have not increased in the_' same proportion. the addition being £586.260. Coin, bullion, Australian notes, and cash at bankers in the aggregate are £482,284 lower. A transfer from Government stock to. Commonwealth Treasury bills more than provides for the fall in cash items. The Treasury bills have increased by £585,000. and there has been a decline of £576.000 in Government stock. Total accounts balance nt £60,203.643, which is £545.906 above the total of the previous year. Sir Janies Ashton, the chairman ot directors, speaking at the annual meeting of shareholders, compared the figures of the present balance-sheet and profits with those of 1931-32.' Deposits, he pointed out, had increased from £44.466,000 to £49.777,000. and liquid assets, while showing the same percentage of liabilities to the publie. had increased from £18.952.000 to £21,117.000, equal to 8/3 in the £1 of the bank's liabilities to the public. Bills dsconiited and other debts due to the bank had expanded from £34,643.000 to £37,853,000. The balancesheet total had grown from £54.914,000 to £60.203.000, and profits from £253,865 to £298.227. Berlei Ltd., Sydney Witli a net profit of £26.879. which is £5563 in advance of the profit of the previous year, Berlei Ltd.. Sydney, a company manufacturing foundation garments, has raised its dividend on ordinary shares to 10 per cent, from 8 per cent With preference dividend of 8 per cent., the distribution is £17,756. There wns also paid £1696 as staff profit-shar-ing dividend. A sum of £7OOO has been transferred to general reserve. The balance of £426, which remains, brings the amount brought forward, £2419. to £2845. which is carried forward. The company paid 8 per cent, on ordinary shares in 1934 as in 1935.
