CHIANG’S ULTIMATUM

Rebel Chinese Province Canton, August 2. General Chiang Kai-shek, leader of the Central Government, before de parting by air for the scene of hostilities, issued an ultimatum to the rebel province of Kwangsi, where General Li has established autonomy, threatening a punitive campaign if he does not submit by August 5. Fighting has broken out between the rebels and Government troops near Fungchuen.

British and foreign gunboats are standing by Wuchow, on the Sl-kiang River, in order to protect nationals, including missionaries.
