LODGE MEETINGS

Grand United Order of Oddfellows The Wellington district council of the Grand United Order of Oddfellows held a lodge of instruction in the Rex Hall, Kilbirnie, recently. District officers present were Bro. Hnrnor. D.M., Bro. Palmer, D.DM., Bro. Ryde, district secretary, Sister Ryde, treasurer, and Bros. Mahony, Knight, and Sister Hey, district trustees. The grand master, Bro. Hooper, and grand secretary, Bro. Bradstock, were also present. The district lecturer, Bro.’ Mahony, instructed four candidates in the first degree, 14 were advanced in the second degree, and 16 to the third degree. After the district lectures. Bro. Ryde gave a demonstration and lecture on the preferential system of ballot, afterward answering many questions. Dancing and supper concluded the meeting. Loyal Central Lodge. One candidate came up for initiation and four new members were nominated at the recent meeting of Loyal Central Lodge. Bro. Kennedy reported on the coming table tennis tournament, aud Bro. Couper on the annual ball. Bro. Hooper reported on a meeting of the U.F.S. Dispensary. It had been decided to hold another debate, but owing to the absence of two of the speakers it was adjourned. P.N.G. lectures were given by the branch lecturer. Badminton, cards, and supper concluded the evening. Loyal Ryde Lodge. Bro. A. Thomas presided at the recent meeting of Loyal Ryde Lodge, the supervising officer being Bro. H. Tingay, P.N.G. The balance-sheets of the sports and picnic committees were before the branch. Bro. Norton reported on the recent card evening, Bro. Thomas on the proposed table tennis tournament, and

Bro. Rabbit the annual ball. Bro. Tingay was appointed delegate to the Friendly Society's Council. Sister Siuclair and Bro. Mattherson were elected supporters to the V.G. Supper was served at the conclusion of the meeting. Star of Newtown Lodge. There was a large attendance of members and visitors at the last meeting of Star of Newtown branch, at which three candidates came forward for initiation. Accounts and sick pay were passed for payment. Reports were received from the ball delegate, and the social secretary. The balance-sheets of the picnic and sports club were received. Harmony concluded the meeting. Independent Order of Oddfellows There was a large attendance of members at the recent meeting of Victoria Rebekah Lodge, Independent Order of Oddfellows, over which Sister E. Clark, P.N.G., presided. Reports were received from the sick visiting committee. Quarterly and other accounts were passed for payment. Invitation to the G.U.0.0.F. ball and Wildey. Rose of Wellington. Southern Cross. Esther and Pride of Karori dances were accepted. A letter was received from the U.F.S. Dispensary advising that a meeting would be held to consider proposals for forming a private company. Three members of Wildey Lodge were nominated for membership. Pride of Karori Lodge. At the recent meeting of Pride of Karori Lodge an official visit wn«s received from the N.G. and officers of Zealandia Lodge. One candidate was admitted to membership. Arrangements were completed for holding a “back-to-childhood” social. Maraenui Lodge. At Maraenui Lodge two members were reported to be on the sick list. Two candidates were elected members of the lodge. It was decided to purchase a set of indoor bowls. Regret was expressed

at the indisposition of the Grand Warden, Bro. Rudkin. Southern Cross Lodge. Several members of Southern Cross Lodge were reported to be on the sick list, reports from the sick visitors being received. Accounts totalling £134/12/a were passed for payment. Invitations to three lodge socials were accepted. It was decided to enter for the U.F.S.C. 500 tournament. A satisfactory report on the accounts of the lodge was received from the auditors. The lodge was closed early to permit the bolding nf 3 social and dance. Zealandia Lodge. At the recent meeting of Zealandia Lodge an official visit was received from the officers of Pride of Karori Lodge. Three members were reported to be on the sick list, relative sick pay being passed for payment. The N.G. reported on official visits paid and arrangements were completed to visit officially Southern Cross and Cleveland Lodges at their next meetings. Three candidates were admitted to membership and three more nominations received. It was decided to hold an initiation ceremony next meeting. The delegate on the dispensary board reported on the present position in regard to the forming of a private company. Ngaio Rebekah Lodge. Invitations from Port Nicholson Encampment and' O-Kiwi-Iti Lodges were accepted by Ngaio Rebekah Lodge at its recent meeting. The Grand Chaplain, Bro. F. J. Jones, was present and conveyed fraternal greetings from the Grand Warden, Bro. Rudkin. Ngatitoa Lodge. Invitations to socials were received from several lodges at the recent meeting of Ngatitoa Lodge. The N.G. extended greetings to the members of Maraenui Lodge who were present. Owing to the visit of Maraenui Lodge to play for the cribbage shield several matters were held over until next meeting. The result of the tournament was Ngatitoa 11 games, I Maraenui nine games. Those members 1 not playing cards were entertained to a friendly game of billiards.
