“RHODES OF AFRICA”
Life of an Empire-builder Brought to the Screen Two years have passed since the first announcement was made that the life of Cecil Rhodes was to be made into a film. In those two years many things have happened. Great preparations were made for production, and Gaumont-Bri-tish sent envoys to .South Africa to negotiate with the Government. Then came the news that the film was not to go on, followed later by the report that production was to continue after all. In tne early months of last year a band of Gaumont technicians left for the south. On the veldt the adventures of the old pioneer days were rekindled for their cameras. In the summer they returned to England bringing with them thousands of feet of valuable film, which told in pictures the giant battle for Empire supremacy in the days of Rhodes. With Walter Huston in the leading role of Cecil Rhodes, a gallery of famous characters, their names still household words, has been built up round the life of the famous Englishman in the film, “Rhodes of Africa,” which will commence at the Plaza Theatre next Friday.
