Glaring Headlights
Sir,—As the Minister of Transport, the Hon. Mr. Semple, has started on a Safety First drive, I would like to draw his attention to the very slip-shod way in which car lights are tested at the present time. During the last month four fatal accidents occurred and the drivers concerned in them blamed glaring headlights of oncoming cars for the trouble. At the present time all car lights are tested while cars are empty, which is absolutely wrong. All lights should be tested while cars are fully loaded. It the traffic authorities would test an empty car with lights correctly adjusted then load the car, they would see for themselves the difference between the angles of the beam of light, the loaded car-lights being well outside of regulation range, adding to the danger of other road traffic. - 1 am> etC ” K.G.T.
